Hamburg's Great Port Festival

Every year in spring the city of Hamburg celebrates its port’s birthday. The port festival took place for the first time in 1989, on the occasion of the port’s 800th anniversary. The festival found favour and so developed into an annual tradition. The program is packed with a wide range of events. Whether on the water, on land or in the air, there is an attraction for everyone.

Aquatic events

Aquatic events are at the heart of the port of Hamburg’s birthday celebrations. On the River Elbe from the historic harbour of Övelgönne right along the landing stages (Landungsbrücken) to the Speicherstadt / Hafen City. The programme is explained in detail by the master of ceremonies together with various interviewers. Some of the traditional highlights are for example the parade of tall ships, traditional ships and sport boats as they sail into and out of the harbour, a tugboat ballet, dragon boat racing and the harbour illuminations.

Land events

Birthday celebrations centre around land events along the ‘harbour promenade’ from the warehouse of the Speicherstadt (Kehrwiederspitze) to the fish auction hall with approximately 500 fair stands, artistic and culinary delights, shows and entertainment.Countless stages, some of them featuring radio stations, events for children, young people and families, as well as museum specials (exhibitions, guided tours, etc.) round off the program with a cultural flourish. Furthermore you can visit the inaugural church service, the craft fair, the Lotto Action Zone and the games and entertainment promenade.

Not only on the water and on shore a phenomenal entertainment program is provided – also in the air surprises will be afforded. Part of the program are hot-air balloon rides, helicopter tours, parachuting, live helicopter rescue operations and live Lufthansa cockpit interviews.

Folk and spring festival on the "Cannstatter Wasen" in Stuttgart!

The "Cannstatter Wasen" in Stuttgart attracts millions of people from all over the world every year with its two famous beer festivals: the Cannstatter folk festival and the spring festival.
The Cannstatter folk festival is along with the Oktoberfest the second largest beer festival in Germany. It was celebrated for the first time in 1818 at the request of the king of Wuerttemberg, Wilhelm I., and his wife Katharina. Ever since the folk festival takes place annually from the end of September to the beginning of October.
The spring festival is slightly smaller but just as well exciting and eventful! It takes place every year in spring, from the middle of April to the middle of May.

Both festivals stand for a lot of fun with their numerous beer tents, booths and fairground rides as the big wheel, a wild-water channel and a free fall tower.
